‘WEEK 6 ALREADY??’ PLAYLIST

28/8/2018

Issue 6, Semester 2

Mairead O'Connor

After reading Tilly’s incredible article (“Alors on danse”– YES and literally everything else), I was inspired to make my own JD playlist to get me through the week.

I thought I’d share it with all you De Minimis readers, and maybe as an experiment try and continue each week to process thoughts and feelings (law and perhaps not so law-related) through what I’ve been listening to. The connections may be pertinent, or more likely very tenuous if it’s just a BIG track that I need to share.

Picture
This week is very POP and I make no apologies about that.

Enjoy for your study or journey home. Listen on Spotify here.

“Nobody” – Mitski
Be the Cowboy

Because nobody’s doing the Contracts mid-sem are they? Maybe, actually. I don’t know yet. Hmmm…???

“It Gets Better (With Time)” – The Internet
Hive Mind

What I would say to my semester one self.

“Meet Me in the Hallway” – Harry Styles
Harry Styles

A shout out to the people you only ever see at the Level One microwaves because they’re not in your classes anymore.

P.S. I beg of you, listen to this album if you haven’t already, 1D fan or not. Harry is a GOD.

“Day Dreaming” – Aretha Franklin
Young, Gifted and Black

For those getting through the past week daydreaming about, and mourning, Aretha.

“BOY” – Charlie Puth
Voicenotes

Ok, I really can’t think of a good connection for this track, but I can’t stop listening to this piece of perfectly crafted pop about being in love with an older woman. This may be a divisive inclusion but it’s worth it if even one person gets around it.

“Smile” – Lily Allen
Alright, Still

Some nostalgia dedicated to Peter Dutton and his bizarre press conference saying it was good that he could smile again now that he’s released from the stony-faced persona he had just been adopting all this time for the border protection portfolio. Perhaps he won’t be smiling so much if he’s rendered ineligible for Parliament by s 44(v)…

“Sorry” – The Easybeats
Vol. 3

I was riding by a pub on my way home the other night and it was pumping this track. It reminded me of how much I love it. That’s about it really.

But actually -  did anyone watch the ABC 2-part biopic about The Easybeats called Friday On My Mind? Amazing content!

“successful” – Ariana Grande
Sweetener

Sooooo… Ari’s new album dropped this week. I can’t decide if this song is terrible or seriously visionary but either way this goes out to those feeling successful whether in law-related pursuits or in any other ways you measure your personal GROWTH.

Also, if anyone wants to chat to me about Ariana Grande’s and Pete Davidson’s incredibly intense relationship it’s like my number one topic of conversation so yeah, please approach.

“Being Alive” – Frankie Cosmos
Vessel

For those of you who aren’t quite at Ariana Grande’s levels of confidence in both life and love at the moment let this be your important reminder and anthem.

“Either” – Tetrahedra
SOMA

Law school is often characterised for me by indecisiveness which this song (by VCA alumni geniuses Tetrahedra) perfectly encapsulates. I hope I made the right choice by publishing this playlist and attaching my name to it, which I definitely agonised about.

Thanks for listening!
