Volume 8, Issue 5 The views expressed below do not represent those of De Minimis. In breaking MLS news, the author has become aware that a clerical error affected the release of marks for an unfortunate bunch of Second Year JD students who took ‘Administrative Law’ last semester. MITCHELL HOLMAN
Volume 8, Issue 5 The views expressed in this article are the author’s own. They do not represent those of De Minimis; its editors, or the Melbourne Law School at large. Some of you may have heard this idea quoted before, in that: While Hilary Clinton, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and other presidential candidates are fighting the campaign to be the next President of the United States, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump are openly fighting the real war. A silent war of capital flows and wealth distribution. The war between The People and Corporate America; vis-à-vis the 1%. MATT PSYCHARIS
Volume 8, Issue 5 Friday’s failed plan was not the first ‘Operation Fortitude’ in history. For some, Border Force’s proposed operation conjured images of a 1940s Orwellian dystopia. By coincidence (and by a poor appreciation of history on behalf of Border Force) the first ‘Operation Fortitude’ actually took place in 1944. DAVID ALLINSON
Volume 8, Issue 4 The Melbourne Law School Choir is the single best use of your time on Thursday afternoons at 1pm in the Law Clinic, Mezzanine level. Here are three reasons why: SARAH MOORHEAD
Volume 8, Issue 4 In a rare scoop, De Minimis has received an unverified leak from a highly-placed source within the Liberal Party. With all these leaks of late, it seems the Libs need a good plumber. I’m sure Ricky Muir knows a guy (Ed.) [Secret & confidential: to be circulated to the Brandis Brigade only] DAVID ALLINSON
Volume 8, Issue 3 Hey guys, the Reasonable Man here. Just thought I’d write in to keep you up-to-date with my life in the Common Law, where I’ve been in a bit of hot water in WA’s State Administrative Tribunal. VERITY JOHNSON
Volume 8, Issue 3 Docklands: Paris of the South. Who hasn’t spent an evening exchanging sweet nothings with lovers underneath the Big Wheel’s light? SARAH GOEGAN
Volume 8, Issue 3 With clerkship season underway, and amidst the onslaught of endless information sessions and promotional material, the prospect of selecting a career path can be daunting. I sat down with Juliet Akello, a County Court associate (having previously worked at the Werribee and Footscray branches of Western Community Legal Centre (WCLC)), to talk community law, navigating the careers jungle, and the opportunities available to young lawyers. JAMES GRAY
Online only - 13 August 2015 Last night, the campaign for same-sex marriage in Australia suffered a major setback. The Coalition party room convincingly decided against allowing its members to vote according to their conscience on the issue. This means that marriage equality won’t be legalised in Australia until, at least, after the next election, despite popular support for change polling at an all-time high of 72%. ALEXANDRA ANTHONY
Volume 8, Issue 2 In recognition of Homelessness Prevention Week, an annual awareness and action campaign set up by Homelessness Australia – the national pea advocacy body on homelessness – De Minimis presents an articles by Alexandria Anthony, discussing an issue which affects thousand of Victorians, especially over the winter months HAMISH WILLIAMSON
Volume 8, Issue 2 One of the most interesting features of the furore surrounding Tim Carmody’s appointment to the position of Chief Justice of Queensland last year was the criticism levelled at various members of the Queensland judiciary, for their public expressions of scepticism at his authority and impartiality. SARAH MOORHEAD
Volume 8, Issue 1 Clerkship applications open: cue fit of denial and rebellion; wailing and gnashing of teeth; general existential crisis. Response: interview the most social justice-y lawyer likely to answer my email. Result: inspiring, refreshing, exciting chat with Katie Robertson. DAVID ALLINSON
