In 2013 the English Law Reform Commission released an informal paper which debunked many myths about English law. It also confirmed the existence of several peculiar laws. The findings are summarized below. - It is illegal to enter Parliament house wearing a suit of armour - TRUE - It is illegal to carry a plank along a pavement - TRUE - It is illegal to beat or shake a rug in any street, but you can beat a doormat before 8am – TRUE - It is illegal to drive cows down the street without the permission of the commissioner of police – TRUE - It is illegal to be drunk and in charge of a horse – TRUE (See “Riding dirty: Is intoxicated cycling illegal?” De Minimis 13/05/14) - It is legal to shoot a Welshman with a longbow on a Sunday – FALSE - It is illegal to cut in line at the train station – TRUE - It is illegal to let someone under 10 see a naked mannequin – FALSE - It is illegal to handle salmon in suspicious circumstances – TRUE Comments are closed.
