De Mimimis' Women's Issue

The Week 5 issue of De Minimis on 23 August 2016 will be a Women's Issue.

Women make up somewhere between 55 and 60% of students at Melbourne Law School. Women between the ages of 18 and 24, Facebook tells us, are De Minimis’ largest audience.

And yet, women authored only 37.5% of the articles published in De Minimis last semester. When the proportion of women in the Law School is taken into account, this means that women are 25% less likely than men to submit an article for publication.

Publications like De Minimis provide a platform for discussion, reflection and critique. It is important that this platform is not dominated by male voices.

In an attempt to balance the scales, De Minimis will publish a Women’s Issue in week five of semester. We hope that this will kick-start us on the path to achieving parity in submissions.

Female-identifying students are encouraged to submit on any topic, and in any format (article, cartoon, poem etc). Get in touch to let us know if you’d like to be included in the Women’s Issue, or submit as usual for next week. We can’t wait to read your submissions.
